Lysyl oxidase (LOX), a copper-dependent amine oxidase (Kagan and Li 2003) which initiates the process of covalent intra- and intermolecular crosslinking of collagen by oxidatively deaminating specific lysine and hydroxylysine residues located in the telopeptide domain.
CAFs are expressing LOX, inhibiting LOX activity reduces collagen crosslinking, tempers tissue fibrosis, decreases focal adhesions, and impedes tumor progression to reduce breast tumor incidence.
