co-culturing fibroblasts with ovarian cancer cells (ES-2) led to induction of uPA in fibroblasts; the same effect was observed when the fibroblasts were grown in ES-2 cell-conditioned medium. The basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) were the cancer cell-derived paracrine factors inducing uPA transcription in the fibroblasts.
