The Mdm2 protein is involved in an autoregulatory feedback loop with P53 thus controlling its activity. Increased P53 levels transactivate the MDM2 promoter causing its upregulation. The translated protein then binds to P53 and transports it to the proteasome for ubiquitin-mediated degradation.
